Microsoft Issues Emergency Patches for Windows Following April 2026 Update Failures
Microsoft has released out-of-cycle updates to address critical issues with Windows Server domain controllers following the April 2026 security update (KB5082063). These updates aim to restore system stability, impacting a limited number of Windows Server 20025 devices.

Following the April 2026 Patch Tuesday, Microsoft identified significant issues affecting Windows Server domain controllers, primarily repeated LSASS service crashes leading to authentication and directory service interruptions. Affected systems experienced continuous reboots, and some installations of the cumulative update failed.
Microsoft has introduced update KB5091157 to rectify both the controller reboot issue and installation failures. Additionally, specific hotpatches are available for Azure Datacenter editions of Windows Server 2025 and Windows Server 2022. This incident reflects ongoing challenges with Patch Tuesday updates, as previous patches have also caused notable bugs, including unexpected BitLocker recovery prompts on Windows 11 and connectivity issues with Microsoft accounts.
