MidAmerican Energy's Transmission Line Upgrade Faces Local Opposition
MidAmerican Energy plans a 6.5-mile power line upgrade near Briarwood, Iowa, to meet increased energy demands from a new data center. Local residents express concerns over property values, noise, and health risks, prompting the company to reconsider its routing options.

MidAmerican Energy is proposing a 6.5-mile upgrade of power lines in Council Bluffs to support a new data center's energy demands. The plan has faced opposition from residents of the Briarwood neighborhood who are concerned about potential impacts on property values, noise, and health risks.
During a public meeting, concerns were raised regarding the decision to route the lines near homes rather than along Interstate 80, which is permitted under a state law enacted in April. The mayor of Council Bluffs also opposed the plan. In response to community feedback, MidAmerican Energy is open to exploring alternative routing solutions.
