The Middlesex Township Planning Commission has recommended approval for the Pennsylvania Digital 1 data center project, which will be developed on a 693-acre site northeast of Carlisle, featuring three data center campuses and an electrical substation. Development plans are set for review in January, with local utilities confirming adequate water and energy support for the project's needs.

Middlesex Township planning commission recommended approval for subdivision plans of the Pennsylvania Digital 1 data center project, proposed five miles northeast of Carlisle. The 693-acre site will be divided into three data center campuses and an electrical substation lot.
A 61-acre lot will remain open space, with potential future water storage development. The planning commission's recommendation is advisory; final approval is required from the elected supervisors. Development plans for the first data center and electrical infrastructure will be reviewed in January.
The local water authority will reserve 400,000 gallons of water daily for the project, sufficient for 2,367 dwelling units. PPL Electric Utilities confirmed it can support the project's 1.35 gigawatt peak energy demand. The project, which could yield $65 million in annual taxes and create at least 450 jobs, is being developed by Carlisle Development Partners LLC.
