Milton Implements Data Center Moratorium, Approves Jail Agreement
Milton, Georgia has enacted a 30-day moratorium on data center applications as of June 15, 2026, to revise the Unified Development Code. The City Council unanimously approved this measure to prepare for potential policy changes regarding data centers, following community concerns about their impact on local resources.

Milton's 30-day moratorium on data center applications aims to allow city staff time to draft amendments to the Unified Development Code. This decision follows resident concerns regarding the lack of data center policies and potential effects on local power and water supplies.
Concurrently, an intergovernmental agreement with Alpharetta was approved to house inmates at the Alpharetta Jail Facility, reducing transport time for Milton police. This agreement is expected to enhance police efficiency and morale, addressing issues with repeat offenders and court compliance. Additionally, adjustments to the city's fine structure are being considered to ensure costs are appropriately allocated.
