Mincon Aims for 10-15% Output Increase with New Automation Technology
Mincon plans to enhance production by 10-15% at its North Bay facility through advanced automation techniques. This initiative comes in response to rising tungsten carbide costs, which have increased from 30% to 50% of production costs, necessitating efficiency improvements to stay competitive against larger global manufacturers.

Mincon, an Irish corporation in North Bay, is implementing new technology to boost output by 10-15% at its key work center. The company has received funding from the RTRI through FedNor to support this transition, which includes the installation of a state-of-the-art induction unit aimed at improving manufacturing efficiency.
The current production costs have risen significantly, with tungsten carbide now comprising about 50% of total costs. Automation is a critical component of Mincon's strategy to maintain competitiveness against larger mining firms and Chinese products.
Future plans involve further automation of the welding process and collaboration with ICAMP at Canadore College to enhance workforce skills in robotics and electronics. As Mincon adapts to technological advancements, the demand for skilled labor is expected to increase.
