Minesto Advances Underwater Energy Kites Towards Commercial Use
Minesto's Dragon energy kite technology is gaining traction with support from the European Investment Bank and new initiatives in Taiwan. This could enhance renewable energy generation by utilizing previously untapped tidal resources, providing more predictable energy alternatives.

Minesto has been selected by the European Investment Bank for Project Development Assistance to support a proposed 10-megawatt Dragon Farm in EU waters. This project aims to be the first commercial-scale array of tidal energy kites in the EU, with an expected investment of approximately €25 million.
The energy kites, which operate in a figure-eight pattern, can generate electricity in areas where traditional tidal turbines are ineffective due to slow currents. Additionally, Minesto has received funding to explore market opportunities in Taiwan, where the demand for renewable energy is rising.
The expansion reflects a growing interest in marine energy technologies, although challenges such as corrosion and maintenance remain. Success in this sector could significantly enhance the availability of reliable, renewable energy.
