In a significant step towards enhancing energy efficiency within Europe’s residential sector, Ministor convened a conference during the European Sustainable Energy Week in Brussels, drawing nearly 150 participants both in-person and online. This event, which took place from June 9 to 12, focused on sustainable thermal energy storage and featured a robust agenda of presentations and panel discussions addressing decarbonization goals and policy recommendations.

Ministor, supported by a consortium of 17 partners and backed by the European Union's Horizon 2020 program, has developed a high-density thermal energy storage system that integrates innovative technologies. Among these are thermochemical storage solutions utilizing calcium chloride and ammonia salts, alongside unique hybrid photovoltaic thermal solar collectors. This advanced system is designed to operate autonomously, providing heating, cooling, and electricity across diverse residential environments while maintaining comfort and energy efficiency.

The conference not only highlighted the technological readiness of Ministor, achieving level 7 with prototypes tested in real-world conditions, but also addressed regulatory challenges. Current safety regulations, primarily tailored for industrial contexts, pose significant barriers for residential implementation of ammonia-based systems. Ministor advocates for revised standards that would facilitate safe and efficient residential use, ensuring better performance and maintenance protocols.

The project has been operational since 2023, with pilot sites across Greece, Hungary, Spain, and Ireland, representing a variety of climatic conditions and energy demands. This diverse testing framework is crucial for refining the system's adaptability and reliability, marking a pivotal moment in the quest for a decarbonized residential sector. As Ministor looks to the future, its technologies promise to enhance energy security and leverage renewable energy sources, ultimately supporting a more sustainable Europe.
