In a notable advancement for sustainability within the legal sector, MinterEllisonRuddWatts has emerged as the first law firm in New Zealand to participate in an initiative centered around sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) emissions reductions, in collaboration with Air New Zealand. This innovative partnership allows corporate partners to engage with Air New Zealand's SAF book and claim system, enabling the purchase of SAF certificates. These certificates not only support the airline's utilization of sustainable fuel but also play a crucial role in aiding companies with their carbon reporting, effectively addressing scope 3 emissions associated with business travel.

Holly Hill, a partner at MinterEllisonRuddWatts and the firm’s sustainability leader, emphasized that this initiative underscores their commitment to leadership and accountability in the sustainability arena. Meanwhile, Kiri Hannifin, Air New Zealand's chief sustainability and corporate affairs officer, noted that the airline has been offering SAF emissions reductions to a select group of early adopters to gauge corporate demand and shape future investments in SAF.
