Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Enhances Gas Turbine Production for AI Data Centers
Mitsubishi Heavy Industries is modernizing its gas turbine production processes to meet rising demand from AI-focused data centers. The company has reported a 40% increase in energy system orders, amounting to ¥3.6 trillion (US$23 billion).
Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) is optimizing its gas turbine production at the Takasago Machinery Works in Japan to address the growing demand from data centers. The initiative includes revising over 1,000 processes in purchasing, assembly, testing, and design, aiming for a 30% increase in production efficiency.
MHI plans to invest ¥50 billion (US$320 million) to enhance turbine production. In September 2025, the company announced intentions to double its gas turbine production, citing significant demand growth.
However, industry-wide supply constraints may lead to shortages extending into the 2030s. Major manufacturers are limiting new turbine investments to mitigate risks associated with potential slower growth in data center capacities.
