Mizoram Launches 24 MW Tuirini Small Hydro Electricity Power Project Funded by New Development Bank

Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma laid the foundation stone for the 24 MW Tuirini Small Hydro Electricity Power Project on the Tuirini River in Aizawl district. The project, costing ₹676.98 crore, will be financed through a loan from the New Development Bank in Shanghai, with the Central Government covering 80% and the State Government 20% of costs.

The project proposal was submitted on February 5, 2024, approved by the State Level Screening Committee on April 4, 2024, and received external funding clearance from the Department of Economic Affairs on February 28, 2025. Completion is expected within five years.

Additionally, the Chief Minister highlighted ongoing solar initiatives in the state, including a recently inaugurated 10 MW solar power plant and a 5 MW plant under construction. Mizoram has generated over ₹172 crore from power trading, enhancing its energy self-reliance.
