Montana-Dakota Utilities (MDU) seeks to raise electric rates by 14.5%, amounting to $34.5 million, impacting over 100,000 customers in North Dakota. The Public Service Commission (PSC) has suspended the rate change and has 60 days to review the interim rate request, potentially allowing for partial increases to take effect by September 1st.
Following this, a lengthy hearing process will determine the final settlement. MDU's proposal does not account for costs related to data centers, which will be addressed separately. Public hearings will be conducted, but the PSC will make the final decision.
