Montana DEQ Reviews Lakeside Sewer Expansion Plans with Public Hearing Scheduled
Montana's DEQ is gathering public feedback on the Lakeside County Water and Sewer District's expansion until April 23. The project aims to enhance wastewater treatment capabilities to meet the needs of a growing community, addressing both local and regional wastewater challenges.

The Montana Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) will hold a public hearing on April 23 regarding the second phase of the Lakeside County Water and Sewer District (LCWSD) Improvement Project. This phase involves constructing a wastewater treatment plant utilizing sequencing batch reactor (SBR) technology and three rapid infiltration basins (RIBs).
The project is projected to cost $13.4 million, with funding from various sources including the American Rescue Plan Act. The district anticipates significant reductions in nitrogen and phosphorus from the wastewater compared to current methods.
However, local opposition has emerged over environmental concerns, posing potential delays if lawsuits proceed. The DEQ has determined that the project meets water quality standards without necessitating an environmental impact statement.
