Montenegro and EDF Advance Kruševo Pumped Storage Hydropower Project
Montenegro and EDF are prioritizing the Kruševo pumped storage hydropower plant, with a planned capacity of 82 MW and an investment of EUR 160 million. The project is seen as a key opportunity for enhancing cooperation in the energy sector, aligning with EU standards to attract international financial support.

Montenegro's Ministry of Energy and Mining has emphasized the Kruševo pumped storage hydropower project as a top priority for collaboration with EDF, underpinned by an intergovernmental agreement signed last year. Geological work commenced in October 2025, following a contract with the Jaroslav Černi Water Institute for design and geological studies.
The project is estimated to require an investment of EUR 160 million, with an expected annual output of approximately 170 GWh. As the regulatory framework aligns with EU standards, this paves the way for intensified cooperation with international financial institutions. The upcoming focus will include preparing a feasibility study and defining sustainable financing models.
