Montgomery County, Missouri Considers 1,000-Acre AWS Data Center Campus

DATA AND AI INFRASTRUCTURE

The Montgomery County commission is reviewing a proposal for a 1,000-acre Amazon Web Services (AWS) data center in New Florence, Missouri. The project, located at the Interstate 70 and Highway 19 interchange, is planned to develop in two phases, starting with eight data center buildings, followed by an additional 13 buildings.

AWS will also construct stormwater management ponds, wells, and a water treatment plant, with power supplied by Ameren Missouri. The company aims to finalize property acquisition by Q1 2026, pending building permit approvals.

Community feedback has been mixed, with concerns regarding noise, pollution, and environmental impact. Additionally, a competing proposal, Project Spade, seeks to develop 780 acres for three data center buildings nearby, introducing further competition in the area. Existing operators in Missouri include TierPoint, H5, and Rackspace.
