Morocco Launches Public Tender for Mining Exploration in Tafilalet and Figuig Regions
STRATEGIC MINERALS
The Moroccan Ministry of Energy has initiated a public tender for the exploration of 361 mining zones, encompassing approximately 13,000 km² in Tafilalet and Figuig. Interested candidates must submit their participation files by May 15, 2026.
This move aligns with a global push to secure critical minerals, which include cobalt, nickel, and rare earth elements. The U.S. has emphasized Morocco's strategic importance in diversifying supply chains for these resources. Concurrently, the National Office of Hydrocarbons and Mines is undergoing governance reforms, transitioning to a public limited company to enhance efficiency and competitiveness in the mining sector.
