Morocco Plans 3 GW Solar Expansion by 2028 Amid Energy Transition Goals
Morocco aims to secure its energy supply and reduce import dependence by enhancing renewable energy capacity. The country currently has 12.2 GW of installed power, with 5.6 GW from renewables. By 2030, Morocco targets 52% renewable capacity, focusing on solar, wind, and hydrogen. The country intends to add 3 GW of solar by 2028 and has announced a $37 billion investment plan for green hydrogen projects, creating 37,000 construction jobs. Infrastructure upgrades are necessary to handle increasing electricity demand, projected to grow by 7.2% annually.
