Motiv Space Systems and PickNik Robotics Partner for NASA's Fly Foundational Robotics Mission Software Development
Motiv Space Systems and PickNik Robotics have signed a contract to develop software for NASA's Fly Foundational Robotics (FFR) mission. The FFR mission aims to enhance robotic manipulation capabilities in low Earth orbit, supporting NASA’s In-space Servicing, Assembly, and Manufacturing objectives. PickNik will provide motion planning and control software using its MoveIt Pro platform, alongside integration support with Astro Digital. The collaboration focuses on ensuring efficient ground testing and on-orbit operations, contributing to future robotic mission advancements.

Motiv is responsible for the robotic system, while PickNik will deliver motion planning and control software based on MoveIt Pro, and support integration with Astro Digital. Key deliverables include a flight runtime configuration and a ground-based operator terminal.
The partnership emphasizes simulation, testing, and operational tooling to ensure mission readiness. Space ROS will be utilized to align with aerospace software standards, fostering the development of modern robotics practices for future missions.
