Mount Vernon is proposing a new hybrid position to enhance economic development and communication. This idea stemmed from a meeting between Safety-Service Director Tanner Salyers and Jason Duff of Small Nation.

Salyers noted that communities like Mount Vernon require focused roles for economic and communication directors. The city is seeking a $5 million federal grant for wastewater treatment upgrades and has authorized a bond sale of up to $29 million for a new police station. Funding for the new position will be sourced from reallocated general fund money.
