Mpatamanga Hydropower Project Seeks River Gauging Specialists for Monitoring
The Mpatamanga Hydropower Storage Project aims to enhance Malawi's electricity grid by adding 356 MW capacity. The river gauging initiative will ensure accurate hydrological assessments critical for effective plant operations and project design.

Mpatamanga Hydro Power Limited (MHPL) has initiated a Request for Expression of Interest (EOI) for river gauging services on the Shire River, essential for the Mpatamanga Hydropower Storage Project. This facility will contribute 356 MW of generation capacity, including a 300 MW peaking plant and a 56 MW baseload facility.
The selected contractor will perform regular discharge measurements at three monitoring stations, adhering to international hydrometric standards. Additionally, event-based gauging during high flow conditions will be required. This monitoring is vital for reliable operational planning and hydrological assessments, thereby influencing the project's overall success and sustainability.
