MSC Emilia Makes Inaugural Call at DP World San Antonio, Chile
The MSC Emilia, a dual-fuel container ship registered under the Liberian flag, made its inaugural call at DP World San Antonio in Chile as part of the Alpaca service. During its visit, it handled 500 containers and is designed for enhanced environmental efficiency, boasting a 40% reduction in emissions compared to the International Maritime Organization's Tier III baseline. This vessel is the eighth of ten ordered by MSC, each costing approximately USD 120 million.

The MSC Emilia, registered under the Liberian flag, made its inaugural call at DP World San Antonio, Chile, as part of the Alpaca service launched by the Swiss shipping company. During its stay, it will handle 500 containers, including 300 disembarked and 200 loaded, before departing for the Port of Coronel and subsequently Valparaíso.
The MSC Emilia is a dual-fuel container ship capable of operating on liquefied natural gas (LNG) and designed for ammonia use, with a capacity of 11,500 TEU. It measures 335 meters in length, 45.6 meters in width, has a draft of 25 meters, and a design speed of 20 knots.
The vessel is equipped with shaft generators and wind deflectors, reducing its Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) by approximately 40%, below the International Maritime Organization's Tier III emissions baseline. It is the eighth of ten CIMC ORIC 11500 LNG ships ordered by MSC, with an estimated cost of USD 120 million each. Multiple inaugural calls have occurred at the port throughout 2025, including vessels from Maersk, CMA CGM, ONE, and PIL.
