Multotec Enhances Manganese Recovery with Spiral Concentrators in West Africa
A manganese producer in West Africa partnered with Multotec to enhance recovery from fine manganese tailings, optimizing a previously idle heavy-minerals unit to achieve 47% recovery of high-grade manganese super-concentrate. As demand for battery-grade manganese grows alongside EV manufacturing, Multotec's technology targets previously discarded fine material, presenting opportunities for additional value extraction.

A manganese producer in West Africa collaborated with Multotec to improve recovery from fine tailings, previously ignored due to their size. After recommissioning a dormant heavy-minerals unit, Multotec achieved a 47% recovery of high-grade manganese super-concentrate from a 26% feed concentration.
The demand for battery-grade manganese, driven by EV manufacturing, has prompted miners to seek beneficiation solutions for fine materials. Multotec's spiral concentrators, including the SC21 and UX7 models, are designed for efficient separation of fine and ultra-fine manganese, enabling recovery of materials that can meet offtake requirements. The modular heavy mineral test plants developed by Multotec can process 40 tons/hour, demonstrating a cost-effective approach to manganese recovery.
