Mumbwa Solar Project Creates 650 Jobs with 350 MW Capacity
The Mumbwa Solar Project is a significant initiative in Zambia, generating 650 jobs during its construction phase. With a total investment of $305 million, it aims to enhance the region's energy capacity and local economic stability.

The Mumbwa Solar Project, currently employing 650 workers, is a 350-megawatt solar power initiative in Central Province, Zambia. Set to be developed in phases, the first 100 megawatts is expected to be operational by July.
The project is anticipated to create additional indirect job opportunities through local businesses supplying goods and services. ZESCO plans to expand capacity with another 100-megawatt solar project, ultimately reaching 450 megawatts.
The site’s selection is due to its favorable sunlight and proximity to an electricity substation, facilitating power transmission to Lusaka. As of now, construction is approximately 90 percent complete.
