Mzilikazi Residents Address Bulawayo Water Crisis with Solar Borehole Initiative
Residents of Mzilikazi suburb have implemented a solar borehole project to combat Bulawayo's ongoing water shortages. The initiative, funded by community contributions, aims to provide reliable water access amid municipal supply challenges.

The Mzilikazi community in Bulawayo has launched a solar-powered borehole project to address severe water shortages. Residents contributed US$1 each to fund solar panels and necessary infrastructure, while the local council provided technical support.
The borehole will operate daily from 5:30am to 8pm, managed by a community committee to ensure equitable access. Bulawayo's deputy mayor, Edwin Ndlovu, acknowledged the city's water issues and highlighted the need for new sources and a dedicated water utility. This grassroots effort reflects residents' frustrations over unreliable municipal supply and the urgency to seek alternative solutions.
