Namibia Advances Green Industrialization Through Strategic MoU in Mining and Steel Production

HYDROGEN

The Namibia Green Hydrogen Programme (NGH2P) has formed a significant partnership with Broadmind Mining (Pty) Ltd and HyIron Green Technologies (Pty) Ltd, formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This collaboration aims to develop an integrated approach to mining, mineral beneficiation, and the production of green steel, thereby positioning Namibia as a leading green industrial hub in Africa.

Jona Musheko, NGH2P's Manager of External Affairs and Communications, emphasized that the partnership leverages Broadmind's critical mineral assetsãespecially rare-earth elements and iron oreãlongside HyIron's proprietary green direct reduced iron (DRI) process powered by renewable hydrogen. The agreement outlines a framework for advanced exploration and pilot beneficiation trials to support feedstock development for HyIron's green iron plant.

The initiative is expected to promote skills transfer, strengthen local supply chains, and generate employment opportunities within the mining, metallurgy, and hydrogen processing sectors. NGH2P will play a crucial role in providing strategic support, including stakeholder coordination, permitting guidance, and mobilizing funding to mitigate risks associated with the project.

This partnership is also aligned with Namibia's broader goals under the Climate Investment Funds (CIF) Industry Decarbonization Programme, which seeks to unlock up to USD 250 million in concessional climate finance. The collaborative effort aims to foster local value addition, attract investment, and contribute to the sustainable economic diversification of Namibia's green economy.

In summary, the Broadmind-HyIron-NGH2P partnership exemplifies how multi-sector cooperation can drive industrial transformation and facilitate the production of low-carbon materials essential for the global clean energy transition.
