Namibia Launches First International Welding Engineer Program in Africa
The University of Namibia has introduced Africa's first International Welding Engineer program to meet industrial needs in emerging sectors. This initiative is significant for the region's green hydrogen, oil and gas, and mining industries.

On April 13, 2026, the University of Namibia launched the first International Welding Engineer program in Africa, aimed at addressing the industrial demands of sectors such as green hydrogen and mining. Supported by the International Institute of Welding, the program commenced with 12 students and has secured ten scholarships from the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research, with an additional 30 anticipated.
Industry leaders, including Kraatz Engineering, have emphasized the critical shortage of qualified welding coordinators in Namibia, further underscoring the program's importance. This initiative positions Namibia strategically within the global industrial landscape, particularly in advanced manufacturing and green technologies.
