NASA Advances Lunar Plans Amid Trump’s Commitment to Artemis Program
NASA is preparing for Artemis III, set for mid-2027, while Trump aims for a manned lunar return before 2029. China's lunar ambitions add urgency to U.S. efforts.

NASA announced the arrival of the core stage of the Space Launch System at Kennedy Space Center, essential for Artemis III, scheduled for mid-2027. During a White House meeting, President Donald Trump emphasized his goal for the U.S. to return astronauts to the Moon before the end of his term in 2029, despite not guaranteeing success.
The Artemis II mission crew, the first to orbit the Moon in over fifty years, included Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch, and Jeremy Hansen. Concurrently, NASA confirmed plans for the SR-1 Freedom, a nuclear-powered spacecraft set to launch in December 2028, aimed at demonstrating nuclear propulsion for future Mars missions. The U.S. faces competition from China, which plans to land astronauts on the Moon by 2030, increasing pressure on American space initiatives.
