NASA Initiates New Projects to Modernize MRO for Next-Generation Aviation
NASA is launching initiatives to enhance maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) processes for advanced air mobility. The agency's Gateways to Blue Skies Competition challenges U.S. post-secondary students to develop technological solutions for aviation maintenance issues. Winning teams can receive $9,000 and internship opportunities with NASA. Additionally, NASA is providing University Innovation grants to institutions like Clemson University to identify challenges in MRO as it adapts to new aviation technologies, with a focus on workforce training.

NASA is enhancing maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) practices to support next-generation aviation, including advanced air mobility. The Gateways to Blue Skies Competition invites U.S. students to propose solutions for aviation maintenance challenges, with selected teams receiving $9,000 and a chance to present at NASA's Langley Research Center.
The agency is also issuing University Innovation grants to institutions such as Clemson University to address MRO challenges related to new technologies. Future grants are planned for May, aiming to prepare the workforce for evolving aviation demands.
