NASA to Close Playalinda Beach for Artemis II Launch Preparations

SPACE ECONOMY

Canaveral National Seashore will limit Playalinda Beach hours in January and close the district starting January 31 for safety during NASA's Artemis II mission preparations. The crewed launch from Kennedy Space Center is scheduled for as soon as February 6, 2026.

NASA will roll out the Space Launch System rocket and Orion spacecraft from the Vehicle Assembly Building to pad 39B, a process taking up to 12 hours. Following the rollout, NASA will conduct system tests and final preparations, including a wet dress rehearsal with cryogenic fueling. The Artemis II mission aims to return humans to lunar space and establish a sustained presence on the Moon.
