NASA Unveils Athena, Its Most Powerful Supercomputer at Ames Research Center
NASA has launched its most powerful supercomputer, Athena, at the Ames Research Center, achieving over 20 petaflops of peak performance. Designed to address complex challenges in space and aeronautics, Athena is available to both NASA and external researchers as part of the agency's High-End Computing Capability initiative. The name was selected through a workforce contest in March 2025.

NASA launched its new supercomputer, Athena, at the Modular Supercomputing Facility in Ames Research Center, California. Athena delivers over 20 petaflops of peak performance, surpassing previous systems Aitken and Pleiades.
It supports complex challenges in space and aeronautics, available to NASA and external researchers. The name was chosen in a workforce contest in March 2025. The project is part of NASA's High-End Computing Capability initiative, designed to enhance computing efficiency and support future missions.
