NASA's Artemis II mission astronauts Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch, and Canadian Jeremy Hansen are finalizing preparations in Florida for their launch from Kennedy Space Center on April 1. This mission, the first crewed lunar journey in over 50 years, will not land on the Moon but will conduct a high-speed loop around it in an Orion crew capsule aboard the Space Launch System (SLS) rocket.
The crew has trained for over two years and is currently in preflight quarantine. Glover will be the first Black astronaut in the Moon's vicinity, Koch the first woman, and Hansen the first non-American astronaut to venture beyond low Earth orbit. Boeing, Northrop Grumman, and Lockheed Martin are key contractors for the mission.
