National Grid Launches Little Horsted Substation; NextEra Expands Renewable Capacity
National Grid has activated the Little Horsted substation, enhancing the UK transmission network by 0.5GW, supporting 480,000 homes. This project aligns with a £2.7bn investment strategy for the South East, responding to increasing electricity demand.

The Little Horsted substation, operational now, boosts the UK's capacity by approximately 0.5GW, enabling energy supply for 480,000 homes. This development is part of National Grid's £2.7bn investment plan for the South East from 2026 to 2031, following a record installation of 2.4GW in 2025.
In the U.S., NextEra added a record 4GW of renewables and storage capacity in Q1 2026, with a backlog now totaling around 33GW. However, over US$90 billion worth of projects face low likelihood of proceeding as planned due to permitting delays. The contrasting trends between the UK and U.S. highlight different market dynamics and regulatory challenges.
