NDSU Launches Legendary Harvest Project for Data Center and Greenhouse Colocation in North Dakota
North Dakota State University and Resource Innovation Institute have initiated the Legendary Harvest Project to explore colocating greenhouse food production with data centers. Supported by Applied Digital Corporation, the project aims to tackle year-round food production challenges and utilize data center waste heat. The Polaris Forge 2 site in Harwood will be the primary study location, evaluating the feasibility of this colocation strategy. A final report is anticipated by mid-2026.

The Legendary Harvest Project, launched by North Dakota State University and Resource Innovation Institute, aims to explore the feasibility of colocating greenhouses with data centers. Supported by Applied Digital Corporation, the initiative seeks to address limited year-round food production in North Dakota and make use of waste heat from data centers.
The project envisions a 'Farm Park' that integrates greenhouse operations with data center infrastructure. The Polaris Forge 2 site in Harwood will be used for evaluating technical, economic, and environmental aspects of this approach. A report detailing findings is expected by mid-2026.
