NESREA Collaborates on Carbon Capture and Utilization Initiative
The National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA) is partnering with stakeholders to enhance carbon management practices through a new platform for carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) launched in Port Harcourt. This initiative aligns with existing government policies aimed at promoting environmental sustainability and economic growth in the region.

NESREA has announced a partnership with key stakeholders to advance carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) technologies. The initiative was launched in Port Harcourt, chosen for its significant oil and gas activities, which make it suitable for CCUS implementation.
Government policies like the Energy Transition, Climate Change, and the 2021 Climate Change Framework support this innovation. The project aims to transform waste carbon into industrial raw materials, thereby promoting a circular economy while addressing emissions from local solar power generation.
Collaboration with the Clean Energy Ministerial CCUS initiative is expected to bolster these efforts. Effective implementation may mitigate environmental pollution risks associated with escalating carbon emissions.
