Netherlands AI Factory to Open in Groningen with Significant Investment
The Dutch AI Factory in Groningen is set to open its compute facility, backed by a €200 million investment. This initiative aims to establish a supercomputing hub to enhance AI research and applications, emphasizing European digital sovereignty and collaboration among public and private sectors.

The Dutch AI Factory, located in Groningen, will open its compute facility with an investment of over €200 million from European sources, the Dutch government, and regional recovery programs. The facility will feature approximately 1,800 advanced GPUs and will have a floor area equivalent to a traditional 25-meter swimming pool.
Half of its capacity is allocated for European users, with 23% for Northern Netherlands and 27% for the rest of the country. Meanwhile, Alphabet is increasing its capital raise to $84.75 billion, focusing on AI infrastructure. This investment aims to address energy access challenges in the AI race, balancing operational efficiency with shareholder dilution risks.
