Network Rail Partners with RWE for Offshore Wind Power Supply
Network Rail has signed a Corporate Power Purchase Agreement with RWE to supply 300 GWh of renewable electricity annually for five years, starting April 1, 2027. This deal covers approximately 65% of Network Rail's non-traction electricity needs, supporting its goal of transitioning to fully renewable energy sources by 2030.

Network Rail's agreement with RWE will supply 300 GWh of renewable electricity annually from the Gwynt y Môr Offshore Wind Farm, located 15 miles off the North Wales coast. This arrangement marks Network Rail's second Corporate Power Purchase Agreement in less than a year, expected to reduce carbon emissions by approximately 168,000 tonnes of CO₂e.
The supply is scheduled to commence on April 1, 2027, and will power offices, depots, and managed stations. Collectively with a previous agreement with EDF Renewables, these initiatives aim to cover about 80% of Network Rail's non-traction electricity needs from renewable sources, aligning with its 2030 sustainability target.
