New 70MW Data Center Planned in Sydney, Australia to Replace Former Facility
A new 70MW data center is proposed for Sydney's Macquarie Park area, replacing a legacy facility. The project, with an investment up to AU$700 million, aims to enhance data services in the region.

The New South Wales government has received a SEARS application for a new 70MW data center at 23-25 Waterloo Road, Macquarie Park. The existing facility, previously owned by Exodus Corporation and later acquired by Digital Realty in 2013, will be demolished to make way for an eight-story structure totaling 23,375 sqm on a 1.2-hectare site.
This project is backed by an investment potentially reaching AU$700 million (US$482 million). The site was initially zoned for data center use in 2000, and reports indicate that Fujitsu may be divesting its Australian data center operations. The industry may see increased competition and enhanced service offerings as new infrastructure is developed.
