New CO2 Storage Terminal Planned at Avonmouth by Exolum and Técnicas Reunidas
Exolum and Técnicas Reunidas are establishing Exolum 7CO₂ to develop a CO2 storage terminal at Avonmouth, aimed at addressing emissions from South Wales and South West England. The terminal, operational by 2031, could manage six million tonnes of CO2 annually, providing critical infrastructure for carbon capture and storage outside the current industrial clusters.

Exolum and Técnicas Reunidas have formed a subsidiary, Exolum 7CO₂, to spearhead a CO2 storage terminal at Avonmouth, expected to commence operations in 2031. This facility aims to manage up to six million tonnes of CO2 per year, addressing the emissions from South Wales, responsible for 5% of the UK's total.
The terminal will facilitate modular transport by rail and ship, providing infrastructure for carbon capture, transport, and storage for industries currently lacking access. This initiative is crucial for supporting emerging industries, including data centers and sustainable aviation fuel projects, in reducing their carbon footprint. The development reflects a broader need for resilient infrastructure to accelerate carbon capture efforts across England and South Wales.
