New EPSRC Grant Initiates Nature-Inspired Hydrogen Research; 5G Network Drones Detection Demonstrated

The CNIE, UCL's Electrochemical Innovation Laboratory, and Kew Gardens are embarking on a two-year project to develop nature-inspired water electrolysers for green hydrogen production, backed by a new EPSRC grant. The collaboration involves key researchers including Professor Marc-Olivier Coppens and Dr.
Tom Prescott. Meanwhile, AT&T and Ericsson have demonstrated drone detection capabilities using standard 5G cell sites during the World Cup in Arlington, Texas, tracking drones up to 3.7 miles away. This non-cooperative sensing approach could enhance airspace security without requiring drones to transmit data.
The integration of existing infrastructure for drone detection could disrupt traditional security paradigms, although current limitations in performance metrics and false positive identification remain. The evolution of this technology may influence the future of urban airspace management.
