New Hampshire Launches Initiative for Advanced Nuclear Reactor Development
New Hampshire's Department of Energy is tasked with creating a nuclear energy roadmap under an Executive Order from Governor Kelly Ayotte. This initiative aims to enhance energy supply, reduce costs, and explore the economic benefits of next-generation nuclear power.

New Hampshire's Governor Kelly Ayotte has directed the Department of Energy to explore advanced nuclear power, initiating a review of relevant regulatory and market conditions. A nuclear energy roadmap will be developed, detailing steps and resources necessary for the deployment of nuclear generation, with a preliminary report due in six months and a final report in 24 months.
The state currently generates approximately 57% of its electricity from nuclear energy, primarily from the Seabrook nuclear power plant operated by NextEra Energy Resources. NextEra has indicated potential for adding up to 6 GWe of small modular reactor capacity to meet growing energy demands, particularly from data centers. This initiative may enhance grid reliability and energy affordability in the region.
