New Jersey Senate Advances Bill for New Tariffs on Large Data Centers
The New Jersey Senate has advanced a bill to establish new tariff classes for large data centers consuming over 100MW monthly, aimed at safeguarding ratepayers from escalating costs. This legislation, which also promotes energy efficiency, has already passed the Assembly and awaits the Governor's approval before his term ends on January 20. Similar regulatory proposals are being considered in states such as Wisconsin, Ohio, Oregon, and Virginia.

The New Jersey Senate passed a bill to create new tariff classes for data centers exceeding 100MW monthly to protect ratepayers from rising costs. The bill requires utilities to submit tariffs to the Board of Public Utilities and incentivizes energy efficiency.
Passed by the Assembly in June, it is now with the Governor for approval before he leaves office on January 20. Other states like Wisconsin, Ohio, Oregon, and Virginia are also proposing similar regulations for data centers.
