New Legal Framework for Data Center Development in North Macedonia
Recent amendments to urban planning and construction laws in North Macedonia facilitate the establishment of state and private data centers. The government is actively exploring options for a state-owned data center to enhance cybersecurity for public institutions.

Amendments to urban planning and construction regulations in North Macedonia have created a legal framework for developing data centers. Deputy Prime Minister Aleksandar Nikoloski mentioned that the government is considering constructing a state-owned data center to improve cybersecurity for institutions, as current services are primarily contracted from external providers.
The state will provide locations for public projects, while private investors must secure land and manage urbanization for their projects. Preparations for a fast railway line under a partnership with the UK are also underway, with work expected to commence by year-end. This legal framework may attract future investments, although no private initiatives are currently in progress.
