New Mexico Approves $90M for Fairgrounds Redevelopment and $26M for Brackish Water Projects

New Mexico has approved over $90 million for the redevelopment of the State Fairgrounds into housing and amenities, following the State Board of Finance's decision. The future of the State Fair location remains uncertain, with design options including keeping it in its historic site or relocating it for larger amenities.

Local residents have raised concerns about gentrification and costs. Additionally, nearly $26 million in grants has been announced for seven brackish water projects aimed at improving water supply and economic growth across the state.

The funding will support technological advancements to treat brackish water, which is too salty for consumption and agriculture. Meanwhile, advocates are calling for an extended public comment period on Project Jupiter, a proposed data center in Doña Ana County, which seeks permits to emit greenhouse gases equivalent to the emissions of Albuquerque and Las Cruces combined.
