The New Terminal Building at Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport is under construction with an estimated cost of Rs 640 crore. Designed to serve 3.5 million passengers each year, it will accommodate a peak-hour capacity of 2,000 passengers.
The project is divided into two phases; Phase I will include 20 check-in counters and a rooftop solar power system, while Phase II involves the demolition of the old terminal to add four aircraft bays and aerobridges. The terminal will allow the airport to handle up to 54 flights daily compared to the current 18.
Completion is now anticipated by August 2026, following a revised timeline. This upgraded infrastructure is expected to boost tourism in Ladakh, generating economic opportunities for local communities.
