New Waste Processing Facility Opens in Porirua to Divert Construction Waste
Porirua has inaugurated a construction and demolition waste processing facility aimed at reducing landfill contributions. This partnership between Porirua City Council and WasteCo will enhance resource recovery and support a circular economy in the region.

The newly opened construction and demolition processing facility in Porirua is designed to divert waste from landfills and promote a circular economy. Operated by WasteCo under a partnership with Porirua City Council, the facility will process materials primarily from WasteCo skips, with plans to expand services to a broader clientele.
Supported by the Waste Minimisation Fund, this initiative aligns with regional waste management goals, addressing the significant contribution of construction waste to landfills, which accounts for up to 70% of total waste. The facility's opening is expected to bolster local employment and provide an alternative to traditional waste disposal methods.
