New Wastewater Treatment Plant in Karakol to Open in August 2026
A modern wastewater treatment plant in Karakol will open in August 2026, initially serving 75,000 residents with a capacity of 12,000 cubic meters per day. The second phase, expected to be completed in 2027, will increase capacity to 24,000 cubic meters, accommodating 150,000 people. Construction, supported by the Asian Development Bank, is nearing completion, with commissioning tests set for May 2026. Currently, only 35-40% of facilities are connected to the sewer system, with plans to achieve 100% post-launch.

A modern wastewater treatment plant in Karakol is set to open in August 2026, with a first-phase capacity of 12,000 cubic meters per day for around 75,000 residents. The second phase, expected in 2027, will double the capacity to 24,000 cubic meters, serving a total of 150,000 people.
Construction is in final stages, including key facilities like aeration tanks and an administrative building. Commissioning tests are planned for May 2026. Currently, only 35-40% of the city is connected to the sewer system, but plans are in place to reach 100% post-launch. The project is supported by the Asian Development Bank.
