New York State Cancels Major Offshore Wind Energy Solicitation Citing Market Uncertainty

WIND ENERGY

New York State has canceled its largest offshore wind energy solicitation, originally seeking up to 4,000 megawatts, due to federal disruptions and significant market uncertainty. This decision comes after multiple bidders withdrew from the process, jeopardizing the state's goal of achieving 9,000 megawatts of offshore wind power by 2035.

Currently, only two projects, Empire Wind 1 and Sunrise Wind, are proceeding, expected to yield over 1,700 megawatts upon completion. NYSERDA indicated that federal actions and rising costs contributed to the decision, and plans to issue a request for information to gather industry feedback for future offshore wind readiness.
