Newfoundland and Labrador Revokes Crown Land Reserves for Three Wind-to-Hydrogen Projects Due to Fee Non-Payment

HYDROGEN

Newfoundland and Labrador's government has revoked Crown land reserves for three wind-to-hydrogen projects—World Energy GH2, EverWind, and Toqlukuti'k—due to failure to pay land reserve fees. The overall wind-reserve area has decreased from 381,676 hectares to 30,712 hectares.

The government invoiced CAD 54.6 million in fees, collecting CAD 20.1 million. The Exploits Valley Renewable Energy Corporation's project continues, aiming for a final investment decision by 2030. The global green hydrogen market has developed more slowly than anticipated, raising concerns about the viability of these initiatives.
