The Newman City Council approved a $2.49 million contract with Synagro-WWT, Inc. on Feb. 24 to address urgent biosolid disposal needs at the wastewater treatment plant. Anaerobic Basin No. 1 has excessive sludge buildup, compromising treatment capacity and risking state permit violations.
An engineering analysis confirmed the need to remove approximately 2,000 dry tons of material. The project, funded by the city’s Sewer Fund, includes dredging, dewatering, and transporting biosolids. Synagro will operate six days a week and will be compensated based on the volume of material removed. The council also adopted midyear budget changes and a community connectivity plan.
