Nexans Launches DC Microgrid Pilot at AmpaCity Innovation Hub in Lyon
Nexans has launched the first phase of its DC microgrid pilot at AmpaCity in Lyon, France, in collaboration with Schneider Electric and VINCI Energies. This initiative aims to advance building energy systems amid increasing electrification demands, demonstrating the potential of direct current architecture for improved energy management and efficiency.
Nexans has commissioned its DC microgrid pilot at the AmpaCity hub in Lyon, France, featuring a 700 VDC main distribution bus and supporting infrastructure. The pilot includes a 14.4 kWh battery storage system and two 30 kW EV charging stations, connected via Nexans' DC bus cable and an interlink converter from Schneider Electric.
The project aims to address limitations of traditional AC systems as demand for distributed energy resources and electric vehicle charging rises. Future phases will integrate photovoltaic systems. This effort positions Nexans at the forefront of DC electrification, setting standards for 700-800 V DC infrastructure suitable for data centers and commercial buildings.
