Molocaboc Island in Sagay City, Negros Occidental, will serve as the pilot site for a P8.5-million desalination project by NFRDI, in collaboration with BFAR. The project aims to produce potable water and rock salt, enhancing local livelihoods. Implementation is expected within two years, with community support and infrastructure from the Sagay City Government.

Molocaboc Island in Sagay City, Negros Occidental, has been selected as the pilot site for a P8.5-million desalination project by the National Fisheries Research and Development Institute (NFRDI) in partnership with the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR). A technical team visited Mayor Leo Rafael Cueva on February 24, 2026, to present the project, which is set to take place over two years.
The facility will cover 300 to 500 square meters and aims to address freshwater scarcity by producing drinking water and generating rock salt as a secondary product. The project is designed for community involvement and is expected to serve as a model for other coastal communities. The Sagay City Government will provide support for essential utilities.
